Redwood Regional Park - 12/1/96

On the morning of Sunday, December 1st the East Bay Barefoot Hikers met for a barefoot hike along the East Ridge, Prince, Mill and French trails.

Fourteen people took part including myself, my son Gareth (13), Fred, Phoebe (11), Darren, big Phoebe, Teresa, Dan, Marcie, Kathy, Barbara, Carol, Debra and her son Eric (13).

The weather for this hike was just about perfect ... clear and cool just after some days of rain. This hike was intended to be essentially a re-run of the previous hike (poor attendance due to threatening skies). In the end, walked further and explored some new trails. Barbara (leader of the North Bay Barefoot Hikers) came along with her sisters Kathy and Carol. Marcie and Carol were newcomers to barefoot hiking. Marcie is, however, an "urban barefooter".

Since I've been so tardy in writing up this account, I really can't give a very detailed report. We certainly had a wonderful time hiking along and visiting.

High points:

• An incredible range of "gourmet" muds to be sampled along the section of East Ridge trail before the Prince trail
• Leaving signs and "BareFootPrints" to guide those that were lagging behind.
• A lunch-spot where the undergrowth nearby was absolutely carpeted with lady bugs.
• Young Phoebe giving everyone new names to replace the ones we had.

Low points:

• Temporarily losing Gareth, Eric and Dan when they took a parallel trail that was supposed to re-join, but didn't.
